BETTY CRAKER HENDERSON

AUTHOR, MUSICIAN, STORYTELLER

CHILD SUPPORT is Betty Craker Henderson's first published book.  It is a novel dealing with the trials and tribulations of a contemporary woman, betrayed by her mate and left to flounder on her own as she searches for new meaning in her shattered life.

CHILD SUPPORT is published by Hard Shell Word Factory and has recently been released in international distribution.  It is a mainstream, contemporary novel that focuses on women's interests in a deliberately authentic Ozarks setting.

"Looking down over the hills and hollows where I love to roam, I imagined a woman, abandoned by husband, ignored by children and bereft of friends, being cradled in the arms of her Ozark hills as she tries to hold her head high and fight through to the new way of life that has been thrust upon her against her will," said Henderson.  "Issues haven't changed very much with the times.  Shadows of other women, some long gone and others still to come, melded with the personality of my heroine,  and I knew I had to show how she would persevere in spite of monumental difficulties.  There is so much history integrated into the people who live in the Ozarks.  I couldn't help but feel their influence."

CHILD SUPPORT was awarded  Best Romance Novel of 2002 by the Missouri Writers Guild at their annual conference in Jefferson City, Missouri in April.

CHILD SUPPORT has been nominated for the 2002 Independent E-Book Award.  Betty has received excellent reviews on this book.  Christine Boyle, the Senior Editor at Hard Shell Word Factory, was enthused when she reviewed the manuscript.  "Before I knew what happened, I'd read over one hundred pages.  I simply could not stop.  The dialogue is great- - right on target with the grandmother's Ozark dialect, and the characterization is wonderful.  It made me laugh.  I think it's a simply marvelous piece of work...an outstanding manuscript."

A Bit About the Book
